The St Leger is, of course, named after the horse race that takes place in Doncaster, but the greyhound race also has its own imitators. There is also the Irish St Leger – inaugurated in 1932 – that takes place every year at Limerick Greyhound Stadium and the Yorkshire St Leger, held annually at Doncaster Greyhound Stadium, which was inaugurated in 2004. This is only testament to the popularity of this race.

The St Leger has only had two homes, but they have been the two most important greyhound tracks of all time: the Wembley Stadium and Wimbledon Stadium.
