Interesting Facts about the Stadium

The Peterborough greyhound track has benefitted from major renovations and looks completely different from when the course first opened for business in 1931. The first overhaul took place in 1988 and cost £500,000 to complete and saw the building of the ‘Raceview Restaurant’ as well as adding a further 600 seats to the grandstand which was glass fronted.

A fire in 1999 devastated the venue with a 250-capacity seating area, a tote booth and the destruction of two bars causing the closure of the site for six-months while rebuilding took place. This meant customers to find alternative tracks.

When course owner Rex Perkins died at the age of 72 from cancer, Rex’s son Richard and nephew Rob honoured his passing by building a £3 million extension to the track. Improvements to the course included increasing the capacity in the race view seating area to 1,000 and adding lucrative executive boxes at the venue. It was a fitting gesture by the family who had owned the track since 1945 when Rex’s father Reg purchased the track.
